Introducing The Cedar Community Hub

4/4/2016

0 Comments

CEDAR Centre is proud to introduce to the new Cedar Community Hub, a place where students and the community are able to interact in a productive and meaningful way. Essentially, the Hub will allow our highly trained students the opportunity to take on volunteer "fill in" positions to organisations within the Toowoomba community.

Our success in securing funding means we are able to provide education opportunities for students with exciting value added services included. The “Engaging Communities for Learning” program aims to support people in gaining a Certificate III qualification in a supported environment.

The CEDAR Community Hub will provide skills assessment, life skills activities, job preparation, accredited training, work placement, and post participant support to name just a few. The Hub is set up to provide further practical training and real world opportunities for students studying CHC30215 Certificate III Community Service, CHC33015 Certificate III Individual Support and BSB30415 Certificate III Business Administration.

Students can expect to develop:
  • Develop an understanding in WH&S and personal wellbeing;
  • Develop skills regarding working within the community services sector; and
  • Learn how to apply their skills in the workforce.

Students will participate in 2x2 hour workshops per week as well as additional tutorials at various times over a four day period each week. Practical hands on experience in the CEDAR Community Hub and one on one study and assessment support as well as mentoring and counselling support.

Students will volunteer in participating organisations where they will experience what it is like in real operational organisation. During these volunteer sessions, the valuable skills students acquire will be utilised when they participate in our volunteer pool.

CEDAR Community Hub will develop a pool of qualified, skilled and experienced volunteer personnel as immediate “fill ins”, available for organisations who need to fill a spot where someone may be sick or otherwise not at work. Our volunteers will be available to fill the immediate gap thereby we are supporting organisations in the Toowoomba area.

The benefits of the CEDAR Centre Community Hub are quality and widespread.
  • The organisation benefits by having a full complement of experienced staff.
  • The student benefits through their volunteer contributions of enhancing existing skills and developing new skills as well as the “feel good” aspect of helping out.
  • CEDAR Centre Community Hub benefits through continued improvement and provision of innovation and difference.

This Skilling Queenslanders for Work project is proudly funded and supported by the Queensland Government.
