More jobs in the Toowoomba Region for Disability Workers
It is expected that there will be an additional 3,200 people who will be eligible for funding under NDIS in the Toowoomba Region.  That is nearly double the number of people who currently receive funding.

And that means, that the estimated workforce will be nearly double!!

We have great success rates with employment outcomes, so let us help you gain this qualification and support you into work.

See if you are eligible for our great supported program that allows you to be trained and mentored in a job – Engaging Community for Learning.

But don’t forget, we have lots of other funded programs for qualifications from Certificate III to Diploma.

Graduation is just the beginning!

On behalf of the CEDAR Centre, we extend a sincere congratulations and best of luck to all our graduates. You have all been exceptional students and we have no doubt that you will continue to serve as worthy ambassadors for the community by building a reputation for excellence.

We would like to say a big congratulations to each student who has worked hard to finish their qualification and to everyone who came along to support our graduates on this special night.

We believe that graduates of the CEDAR Centre are unique in that, regardless of your chosen area of practice, all of you have the opportunity to enrich the lives of those around you. As you embark upon and progress through your careers, we urge you to always remember why you chose your respective field and the sacrifices that you endured in order to make it happen: to serve our communities and improve the quality of life and health of its members with compassion, honesty and integrity.

In the coming years, we would ask that you are encouraged to not only give back to the community by supporting activities and programs, but also by keeping us updated on the many achievements you will experience in your careers and personal lives. We will always take great pride in your achievements!

Special thanks to our guest speakers Jenelle Choyce (Director of Training Darling Downs & South West Region) and honored graduate Lily Tombi. We would also like to make a special mention to Pam Duff for organising the event, to our very own new hospitality trainer Amy Seekamp for the catering, Sarah Nicholls for photography, the CEDAR Centre chair Angus Lucas for the words of inspiration and Anna Nicholls CEO of Cedar Centre for MCing the event.

Congratulations again to the graduates! The entire CEDAR Centre is very proud of you!

Introducing The Cedar Community Hub

4/4/2016

CEDAR Centre is proud to introduce to the new Cedar Community Hub, a place where students and the community are able to interact in a productive and meaningful way. Essentially, the Hub will allow our highly trained students the opportunity to take on volunteer "fill in" positions to organisations within the Toowoomba community.

Our success in securing funding means we are able to provide education opportunities for students with exciting value added services included. The “Engaging Communities for Learning” program aims to support people in gaining a Certificate III qualification in a supported environment.

The CEDAR Community Hub will provide skills assessment, life skills activities, job preparation, accredited training, work placement, and post participant support to name just a few. The Hub is set up to provide further practical training and real world opportunities for students studying CHC30215 Certificate III Community Service, CHC33015 Certificate III Individual Support and BSB30415 Certificate III Business Administration.

Students can expect to develop:
  • Develop an understanding in WH&S and personal wellbeing;
  • Develop skills regarding working within the community services sector; and
  • Learn how to apply their skills in the workforce.

Students will participate in 2x2 hour workshops per week as well as additional tutorials at various times over a four day period each week. Practical hands on experience in the CEDAR Community Hub and one on one study and assessment support as well as mentoring and counselling support.

Students will volunteer in participating organisations where they will experience what it is like in real operational organisation. During these volunteer sessions, the valuable skills students acquire will be utilised when they participate in our volunteer pool.

CEDAR Community Hub will develop a pool of qualified, skilled and experienced volunteer personnel as immediate “fill ins”, available for organisations who need to fill a spot where someone may be sick or otherwise not at work. Our volunteers will be available to fill the immediate gap thereby we are supporting organisations in the Toowoomba area.

The benefits of the CEDAR Centre Community Hub are quality and widespread.
  • The organisation benefits by having a full complement of experienced staff.
  • The student benefits through their volunteer contributions of enhancing existing skills and developing new skills as well as the “feel good” aspect of helping out.
  • CEDAR Centre Community Hub benefits through continued improvement and provision of innovation and difference.

This Skilling Queenslanders for Work project is proudly funded and supported by the Queensland Government.

For further information regarding the program or the Cedar Community Hub please contact:
  • Anna Nicholls (Chief Executive Officer)
  • Helen Bell (Hub Coordinator)

We have moved!!

CEDAR Centre has recently moved to a new location.  We are very excited about our new premises with a fresh start to the new year. Please be patient with us as we settle into our new premises, paint some walls, unpack boxes and wait for all our technology issues to be sorted.

Very soon we will be fully operational again.  We have some new courses to offer this year and a new delivery schedule that we hope will be suitable to everyone.  We will continue to offer courses in a supportive and welcoming environment.

Come see us at 57 Brook Street, Toowoomba.  Look for the last red brick building heading north on Brook St.
